“Bosporus Acident” is a release that might not have happened if not for a chain of certain predictable occurrences.
Chance shuffled the deck of events in such a way that, in 2023, Pasha (Morphtables) and Artem (Raveny) crossed paths on the shores of the Bosphorus, swapped their gear and played live IDM jam.
“No mystery there: we had instruments and a desire to jam. We played 3 sets for an hour, gave it our all and, in our opinion, did one hell of a performance.
There is no telling under what circumstances we will be able to meet again. This mini-album is the result of happy coincidences, simplicity of the moment and musical experimentation.”
The first track “Heatwave Treatment” is akin to a heat wave that rolls in slowly and sweeps the entire globe. Every now and then, you hear how it either reaches its threshold values or subsides. That’s where the musicians used Reaktor and ran the Roland TB-303 through the effects in Zoya.
The second track “Seabird Perspective” is more ethereal, soft and dimensional. Not unlike the air that a bird glides through taking its high and lengthy flight.
The third track “The Last Acid Dream Of A Caterpillar” speaks for itself: the last dream that the caterpillar sees is drowning in a thick acid cloud.
Artem Raveny: “The last two tracks were created like this: Pasha handed me a Monomachine, took away my 303rd and Zoya and kept them for effects. That way, we were both a little out of our element and allowed ourselves to experiment to our hearts’ desire. I was able to throw together all sorts of rhythmic things through Drambo.”
About the artists:
Since he was a little boy, Pasha Morphtables has always been exploring the field of music and recording all kinds of different sounds on cassettes. With the advent of computers, he turned his attention towards synthesizers.
The Squarepusher track “Tundra 4” had such a strong influence on the musician - for the very first time music was no longer just a game of emotions, but a game of images. Something that could be seen and touched.
The visual component of music in the work of Morphtables is the main and even sacred moment – when he is deep in the process of creating tracks, he passes them through several programming languages.
In 2018, Pasha released his debut ambient album “Internal patterns”; in 2019, his release with the Moscow label “Forgotten Tapes” came out, and in 2022, “Chronogramma” was born, which he listened to non-stop while riding on a bicycle along the outskirts of summer Tyumen.
Artem Raveny embarked upon his musical journey in 2001 under the pseudonym Veell. At first he was passionate about the breakbeat sound, then, for several years, he tried his hand at being a DJ and even participated in DJ contests, where he took award-winning places several times.
At the end of 2006, the musician moved to Saint Petersburg, completely shifted his musical focus to IDM and Trip-Hop, and within the next decade he would go on creating 3 bands: the singing IDM group Iky Que, as well as the two dark pop/trip-hop duos Chaoskeeper and Unravels.
His releases include 3 albums, numerous EPs and singles.
Veell’s story would come nearer the end in 2012, and would end for good in 2016, when Artem released his mini-album “Outlanding” that he put together from unfinished sketches.
Since 2020, Artem has been working under the alias Raveny and to date he has released several EPs, singles and a album in collaboration with closeyoureyes.
